Prof. Dr. Ali Qaradaghi Visits Malaysia for High-Level Academic and Diplomatic Engagements

In a significant academic and diplomatic visit, His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ali Qaradaghi, Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Saturday, September 24, 2022, upon an official invitation.

This important visit comes at the request of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and several leading development institutions. During his multi-day visit, Professor Qaradaghi is slated to deliver two major academic lectures.

The first lecture, titled "Development and Its Institutions," will explore his innovative vision for the six integrated Islamic economic institutions known as the "Kafi" framework. This model comprises Qard al-Hasan (benevolent loans), Zakat (obligatory charity), a protection fund, an investment fund, microfinance, and Waqf (Islamic endowment). Together, these institutions form a powerful, complementary network designed to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.

The second lecture will delve into the "Objectives of Islamic Law (Maqasid al-Shari'ah) in Development." It will specifically focus on the fundamental roles of Waqf and Zakat as key drivers for economic and social revitalization within societies.

In addition to his academic schedule, the Secretary-General's agenda includes several high-level diplomatic meetings with senior Malaysian officials, most notably an anticipated audience with His Majesty the King of Malaysia.
