Prof. Dr. Ali Qaradaghi Issues Urgent Appeal to Syrian Conflict Parties to Halt War and Engage in Dialogue for Conflict Resolution

Professor Dr. Ali Muhyiddin Qaradaghi, President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars and Head of the Humanitarian League Organization, issued an urgent appeal to all conflicting parties in Syria to immediately cease hostilities and bloodshed, and return to the negotiation table to resolve disputes and build a new Syria.

"An Appeal to Halt War and Bloodshed and Resolve Issues Through Dialogue

In my name, I call upon all parties in Syria: please abandon war and killing, stop the bloodshed, for the sake of comprehensive reconciliation and the building of a new Syria. Furthermore, commit to the agreement signed between the government and (SDF), and expedite the implementation of its clauses with sincere intentions within the framework of a unified Syria, where the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people are guaranteed.

This is a religious duty, just as it is a national and humanitarian duty, because reconciliation is goodness, indeed it is a clear victory and a source of good and blessing for the people of Syria. War and killing among Muslims is a fitna (strife) with dangerous consequences, and it is entirely evil with no good in it whatsoever. Historical experiences also prove this truth; therefore, the Holy Quran has emphasized the prohibition and criminalization of killing Muslims, and Almighty Allah says: {And whoever kills a believer intentionally - his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him and has cursed him and has prepared for him a great punishment.} (An-Nisa: 93). Moreover, Almighty Allah has considered the unjustified killing of one person as equivalent to killing all the people of the world; as He says: {Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.} (Al-Ma'idah: 32).

Fulfilling the religious and national duty requires resolving issues through constructive dialogue with pure and sincere intentions to achieve comprehensive reconciliation and erase the injustices and problems left behind by the former oppressive regime. I also call upon them to advance the caravan of brotherhood, reconstruction, knowledge, and civilization for the sake of building a new system that protects the rights of all and accommodates everyone, so that Syria becomes a true model of development, as Almighty Allah says: {And say, "Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so will] His Messenger and the believers. And you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do."} (At-Tawbah: 105).

Finally, I wish to clarify that I have had the honor, since the beginning of the revolution, to support and endorse the people of Syria with all my might. Furthermore, through the "Humanitarian League Organization," which we established in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, we have actively participated in assisting our displaced Syrian brothers and sisters in the Kurdistan Region and within Syria, who were victims of the crimes of the former oppressive regime. Also, the university we founded [Human Development University in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq] has admitted hundreds of Syrian Kurdish students for free, and this project is still ongoing.

On another note, I have made extensive efforts for reconciliation and bringing the parties closer, and I am still continuing. I also call upon sincere and benevolent individuals to do whatever they can to abandon war and return to the signed agreement and complete it. We ask Allah to grant us success in it and prevent anything that would sadden us and every beloved and sincere person... Amen.

I declare that this appeal has been directed to both parties, and I have great hope that they will respond to this call. I also express my readiness to exert further efforts to stop the war and participate in achieving reconciliation and implementing the agreement.
