Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi, President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, sent a congratulatory message to Dr. Barham Salih, the former President of Iraq, on the occasion of his appointment as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The message, signed by Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi, reads: "It is with great joy and happiness that we at the International Union of Muslim Scholars received the news of your appointment as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The International Union of Muslim Scholars extends its warmest congratulations to you on this successful selection, which is a result of the appreciation for your efforts and your commitment to the unwavering principles of the country and the nation. We ask Almighty God to grant you further success and guidance."
The President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars noted that this selection, which was decided upon by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on December 11, is for a five-year term and will come into effect at the beginning of 2026.
In another part of the message to Dr. Barham, Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi states: "This position is an honor and a deserving crown for your esteemed personage and for your scientific and practical efforts; it is also a mark of great pride that further strengthens your global standing."
In the conclusion of the message, the President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars expressed hope that Dr. Barham Salih, in this new duty, will be able to successfully bring about good and benevolence for the afflicted peoples of the world and serve humanity.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Barham Salih, as a prominent political and academic figure, previously held the position of President of Iraq and now assumes a crucial international role as the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
