Dr. Ali Qaradaghi: Recognizing Ghadir Eid in a multi-sect, multi-ethnic, and multi-religious country like Iraq does not serve the stability and coexistence of the main components of this dear country.

After the Iraqi Parliament issued new decisions regarding official holidays in Iraq, and one of the occasions added to these holidays was Ghadir Eid, specific to Shiite adherents, this issue caused much discussion and debate. In this regard, Prof. Dr. Ali Muhiuddin Qaradaghi issued a statement:

Iraq is in utmost need of moving away from sectarianism to achieve stability, not to be stirred up.

Recognizing Ghadir Eid in a multi-sect, multi-ethnic, and multi-religious country like Iraq does not serve the stability and coexistence of the main components of this dear country. On the contrary, it sows chaos and promotes sectarianism, discrimination, and conflict. This is at a time when Iraq is in dire need of just governance based on general Islamic principles and fair equality among all components of the Iraqi people, without discrimination or exclusion of any specific component.

History also testifies that sectarianism does not unite a people; rather, it creates division, causes harm, and brings no benefit. Therefore, we call upon Iraqi thinkers to unite on one word.

Because anything that divides them will harm them and help occupiers remain longer, leading to a great failure for them, sooner or later. Allah Almighty says: ("And do not dispute, lest you lose courage and your strength depart." [Quran 8:46]).
