Prof. Dr. Ali Muhiuddin Qaradaghi, President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, visited the Kingdom of Malaysia on an official invitation from the Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim. The visit, from July 5th to July 12th, 2024, is part of efforts to improve bilateral and religious relations and foster cooperation between the two countries in religious and cultural fields.
Dr. Ali Qaradaghi received a warm welcome at Kuala Lumpur Airport from the Minister of Religious Affairs, Datuk Setia Dr. Haji Mohammad Na'im bin Haji Mokhtar, along with a large number of senior officials and staff from Malaysia's religious affairs department.
Dr. Ali Qaradaghi's visit includes several important activities and programs aimed at increasing religious dialogue and cooperation between countries, most notably:
The Global Citizenship Forum, organized by the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) in Kuala Lumpur, where global citizenship and religious issues will be discussed.
The Regional and Unified Conference on the Creed (Aqidah) of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama'ah, organized by the Federal Islamic Affairs Department to discuss matters of creed and strengthen unity among Muslims.
A meeting with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) to discuss ways of comprehensive cooperation in religious matters.
A special session with Islamic scholars and thinkers organized by the Malaysian Islamic Foundation, to exchange views between scholars and thinkers in religious fields.
This visit by the President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars is considered an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Islamic institutions in religious and cultural fields, which will lead to mutual understanding and closer ties among Islamic nations.
Furthermore, on the occasion of the Hijri New Year, the Kingdom of Malaysia held an award ceremony where Prof. Dr. Ali Qaradaghi was awarded the (Prophet's Hijra) Award for International Islamic Personality. This was in recognition of his efforts and endeavors to emphasize the concept of moderation in Islam, especially concerning the objectives of Sharia and the relationship between Islam and the state.
