On West Africa Tour, Dr. Al-Qaradaghi Calls for Intellectual Renewal and Islamic Unity from Senegal

Professor Dr. Ali Mohiuddin al-Qaradaghi, President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), has commenced a significant and multifaceted tour of West Africa, with his first stop being the Republic of Senegal for a scheduled six-day visit.

Consolidating Efforts in Senegal
Dr. al-Qaradaghi's visit began with a series of strategic meetings and projects. In his first activity, he met with members of the IUMS Senegal branch, where he presented the union's overall vision and future projects. He addressed the challenges facing the Islamic world, stating that the "Abraham Accords" represent a form of soft war against Islam and its values. He also emphasized the need to formulate a "comprehensive charter" to unify the efforts of all Islamic components and schools of thought.

A key proposal was a project for the renewal of Islamic jurisprudence, particularly "Fiqh al-Mizan" (the Jurisprudence of Balance), which creates a balance between immutable principles and the changing needs of the modern era. To this end, he proposed holding an international conference in Senegal to serve as a platform for reviving the intellectual unity of the Ummah. He also announced plans to establish a permanent headquarters for the IUMS in the capital, Dakar.

Charitable Projects and a Lecture on Islamic Economics
Continuing his visit, Dr. al-Qaradaghi traveled to the Ndokoumane region, where he received a warm welcome from the local population, led by Khalifa Sheikh Ibrahim Ba. The visit coincided with the launch of a charitable project to build the "Grand Mosque and Dar al-Mawahib," implemented by Qatar Charity. Dr. al-Qaradaghi described the project as a "beacon of knowledge and worship," hoping it would once again become a center for awareness and reform.

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in the capital Dakar, he delivered an important scholarly lecture on the "Structure of the Islamic Economy" in partnership with the Ataa Charity Organization. The lecture was attended by a significant number of scholars, academics, economists, and civil society representatives, sparking a lively discussion on the feasibility of implementing Islamic economics in Africa.

Second Stop: Mauritania
In the second leg of his West Africa tour, Dr. al-Qaradaghi arrived in the land of Shinqit (Mauritania), known as the land of scholars and righteous figures. He was welcomed by his deputy, the esteemed Sheikh Mohamed El-Hassan Ould Dedew. In Mauritania, he is scheduled to conduct several scholarly lectures and charitable projects, and will deliver the sermon at the Abdullah ibn Yasin Mosque in the capital, Nouakchott, during Friday prayers.
