Prof. Dr. Ali Muhiyddin Qaradaghi, was born in the village of Naft, belonging to the town of Qaradagh in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, in July 1949 CE, corresponding to 1368 AH.
It is worth mentioning that the Qaradagh region has long been the cradle of numerous scholars, wise men, and great figures such as Professor Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Kabeer, Professor Sheikh Muhammad Najib Qaradaghi, Professor Sheikh Omar Qaradaghi, Professor Sheikh Mustafa Qaradaghi, Professor Sheikh Baba Rasul, Professor Sheikh Nuruddin, and Professor Sheikh Najmuddin. It was also the birthplace of the great Kurdish Gnostic scholar Mawlana Khalid Naqshbandi.
Dr. Ali Qaradaghi belongs to a devout and knowledge-loving family, and his lineage traces back to Imam Hussein (may God be pleased with him).
His father, Sheikh Muhiyuddin, was a devout, God-fearing, and principled man who always supported truth and justice. He was a good helper and friend to the late Sheikh Mahmoud in the Kurdish revolution against the British occupation.
At the same time, he strongly opposed communist ideology and resisted communism during the years 1958-1963 CE. Dr. Ali says about his father: "My father was a fearless and courageous man who feared no one but God. He was strict and effective in maintaining family order. During the height of communism's rise in Iraq, with a few people, he stood firmly against them in the years 1958-1963 CE, during the revolution of Abdul Karim Qasim in Iraq. They even attempted to assassinate my father but failed. He always instilled the love of Islam in our hearts and taught us to only take pride in Islam."
His father played an influential role in guiding him towards knowledge. Dr. Ali Qaradaghi says in this regard: "My father, may he rest in peace, took me out of government school and put me in a religious school (hujra) during the height of communism in Iraq, at a time when all Sharia colleges, institutes, and schools had been dissolved."
His esteemed mother, Mrs. Amina Osman, may she rest in peace, was a kind, noble, God-fearing, and firmly believing woman. She strongly wished for her children to memorize the Holy Quran and become imams and scholarly messengers.
