I have read the statement of the Iraqi Sunni Endowment Diwan (with full respect for all our endowments, mosques, and minarets, especially the historical and archaeological ones, as this is a right of Almighty Allah in the heavens and a right of His servants on earth).
I add this statement to that announcement and say...
Oh, what a terrible decision this is, seeking to erase and destroy the beacons of faith and history!
Islamic architectural heritage is part of the heritage of Iraq and the Islamic world, representing the brilliance of Islamic art in design and construction throughout Islamic history. This heritage includes numerous beautiful, unique, and artistic engineering designs that express Islamic civilization and are part of the Islamic world.
For all these reasons, I was deeply saddened by the demolition of that minaret. This oppressive decision causes great damage to Islamic culture and arts, with very negative effects on the structure of identity and cultural composition within Iraq. It is also a blatant assault on the Sunni Endowment and its history. Furthermore, the demolition of this historical site could lead to a loss of awareness of Islamic history and its cultural heritage.
Therefore, I call upon the authorities to work on reconstructing the demolished part in a way that atones for this ugly and detestable act and the crime of its demolition. This would be a sign indicating good intentions, as we must give sufficient importance to this heritage, and work on preserving, restoring, and developing it in a way that serves as a visible witness to our identity.
In general, it can be said that preserving Islamic architectural heritage helps in building identity and strengthening affiliation among future generations so that they learn about our history and identity and take pride in it.
I consider the demolition of the mosque minaret to be a bad, undesirable, and rejected act, as well as a violation of all Sharia, historical, social, and legal aspects that cannot be ignored.
O responsible person: Rectify your behavior, and take the initiative to rebuild what you have destroyed, because history does not forgive anyone.
We await rectification...
