Contemporary Fatwas

The book "Contemporary Fatwas" is another one of Prof. Dr. Ali Muhiuddin Al-Qaradaghi's latest books, which is a collection of important fatwas, with the reasoning behind each fatwa clarified according to the Fiqh of Balance (Fiqh al-Mizan).

In this book and its fatwas, the author relies on the Quran and Sunnah, and well-constrained derivation based on fundamental principles, as well as the collective fatwas of various countries and Islamic organizations.

Initially, the author defines fatwa and distinguishes it from judicial ruling and ijtihad (independent reasoning). He then outlines the rulings and characteristics of fatwa and the mufti (issuer of fatwas). Subsequently, he clarifies the relationship of fatwa with the Fiqh of Balance and explains each of the topics of purity (tahara), acts of worship, financial transactions, and Islamic economics in light of the Fiqh of Balance.

After that, the author proceeds to answer a series of questions and issue fatwas on them according to the Fiqh of Balance. These topics include:

Purity: Human purity after death, insect purity, dog impurity, modern means of purification, using impure water... etc.
Prayer: Women leading prayer, mixed funeral prayers, prayer inside a vehicle, women delivering Friday sermons... etc. This section specifically discusses women leading prayers, establishing mosques specifically for women, and women's participation in acts of worship.
Fasting: Fasting for children and the mentally incapacitated, kidney dialysis during Ramadan, fasting during travel... etc.
Zakat al-Fitr and Expiation: Delaying Zakat al-Fitr, time of its distribution... etc.
Zakat: Zakat on shares, delaying Zakat until Ramadan, Zakat on salary, Zakat on gold, Zakat on savings, Zakat on debt, taxes and levies.
